CIBER Hosts Chairman of Wolverine World Wide at Lansing Economic Club

MSU-CIBER was proud to sponsor February’s Lansing Economic Club Luncheon where Tim O’Donovan, Chairman and CEO of Wolverine World Wide, and also an MSU-CIBER advisory board member, addressed the audience of 248 area businesspeople. Mr. O’Donovan gave a background of his company’s strong competitive position both in the United States and abroad. The Michigan-based shoe company touts brands including Hush Puppies, Merrell, Sebago and Wolverine that are garnering popularity in nearly 200 countries around the globe. Brands such as Caterpillar and Harley Davidson are also licensed by the company.

Wolverine World Wide now sells more than half of its products to customers outside the U.S. The strength of their operations and products has turned into profits for the company’s shareholders. In the past several years the Wolverine’s stock (NYSE:WWW) has significantly outperformed major indices. The success of Wolverine World Wide is an example to all Michigan companies looking to increase their business abroad. MSU-CIBER co-sponsors all Lansing Economic Club Luncheons, as well as numerous other activities with the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Apr 1, 2008 Market Potential Index for Emerging Markets - 2008
The focus of this study is ranking the market potential of 27 countries identified as an "Emerging Market" by The Economist magazine. The index, which has been published annually on globalEDGE by MSU-CIBER since 1995, uses a number of market growth indicators to determine the attractiveness of emerging markets. The on-line, interactive rankings allow users to rank emerging markets on the basis of any of the eight dimensions comprising the overall index, thus allowing for extensive customization.

Apr 9, 2008 2008 CIBER Business Language Conference, Preparing Global Business Leaders
The University of Florida CIBER invites you to join us in St. Petersburg for an exchange of ideas and perspectives on how to most effectively train global leaders of the future. We will explore how students and educators can be equipped with the linguistic, multi-cultural and managerial tools necessary for leadership in the 21st century. Conference attendees will participate in sessions devoted to business language instruction and ways to develop successful interdisciplinary collaboration. The 2008 conference also provides a unique opportunity to remember the past and to look toward the future. We celebrate our roots–which date from the 1981 EMU Conference on Language and Communication for World Business and the Professions – as we commemorate the 10th anniversary of the historic 1999 conference held in San Diego. As part of this theme, the UF CIBER has commissioned a study to assess the current state of the field. Dr. Christine Uber Grosse will present the results of this survey in St. Petersburg.
