Success Story

International Business Institute

"...This was my 4th visit with the IBI. And while all have been great, this one was without a doubt the best, both in logistics and content. Each speaker was, in my opinion, top of the line. Kudos to the IBI team for making this institute better than ever!"

Internationalization at the Eli Broad College of Business

The Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University is working hard to enhance its internationalization efforts. In July 2008, longtime CIBER friend and advisory board member Elvin Lashbrooke was appointed as Interim Dean of the Broad School. Dean Lashbrooke previously served as director of the school’s Study Abroad Programs and e-Learning Initiatives for MSU-CIBER and is currently the director of the Summer Business Program at Magdalene College, University of Cambridge in England.

One of Dean Lashbrooke’s first decisions was to create the position of Associate Dean for Global Initiatives, to which he appointed CIBER Director Tomas Hult. Dr. Hult will continue as director of MSU-CIBER and will also lead all global initiatives for the Broad School to support Michigan State University’s world-grant initiatives. These activities include the further development of centers of research excellence abroad; exchange programs with scholars, speakers and researchers; partnerships with other global business schools; global conferences, both on and off campus; and technology-based international education and research offerings.

In addition to the appointment of Dr. Hult, Dean Lashbrooke has also appointed strong internationalist Geoffrey Booth to the position of Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Research. In addition to his internationally grounded research, Dr. Booth is responsible for introducing study abroad to the Weekend MBA program and advocating for the internationalization of the finance curriculum (he continues to serve in a dual role as Chair of the Department of Finance).

With these three appointments, The Eli Broad College of Business and The Eli Broad Graduate School of Management have taken great strides in its internationalization efforts. As always, MSU-CIBER works closely with the administration to encourage all faculty and students to take a global perspective toward their work.
